Wanna Live to 100?

More and more people are living to 100 and beyond. In the U. S. this group increased by nearly 41 percent from 2000 to 2014. Worldwide there are certain spots that have a high percentage of these centenarians. One of them Loma Linda, California, is even in the United States. The other areas are: Okinawa, Icaria (a Greek island), Sardinia, and Nicoya (Costa Rica). The elderly in these areas are not using walkers; they are not confined to wheelchairs; they are not in nursing homes. They live active lives. Many are still working; they ride bikes, socialize, and enjoy life. Before you move to one of these locations what can you do to live to celebrate your 100th birthday where you live now?

Diet is very important. The centenarians eat little meat but some fish. Eating a lot of vegetables and fruits is important. Researchers found those who ate seven or more portions of fruits and vegetables every day reduced their risk of dying from cancer and heart disease (the two major killers) by almost one-third. Studies at the University of Southern California have shown that those with the highest protein intake have a much higher risk of dying than those that ate the least.
